Vladimir Shcherban is an award-winning theatre director. He was born on 7 July 1975 in Ukraine. After graduating from the Belarusian Academy of Arts, he worked at the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theatre in Minsk. In 2005, he became one of the founders of Belarus Free Theatre. Vladimir has lived in London, UK since 2011. In 2018, he co-founded the London-based international company HUNCHtheatre. Vladimir has directed over fifty shows. His productions has toured internationally to critical acclaim, won a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival and an Obie Award, and has been nominated for a Drama Desk Award in New York City.
Vladimir has hosted masterclasses at world-leading universities and institutions including: DasArts Academy (Netherlands), California Instutite of the Arts (US), Ecole Nationale Supérieure Arts et Techniques du Théatre (France), Silvio d'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts (Italy), Brown University (US), Falmouth University, Central Saint Martins – UAL and RADA (in the UK).
During the 2020 lockdown, he took part in the online Art Challenge, recreating works of art at home using improvised materials. This endeavour was highly appreciated by professional artists and art lovers alike, leading to a collaboration with a museum. Vladimir recently published the book Re-creations: An Immersive Journey Through Art, featuring artists and theatre makers from around the world.
